PHILPORTAL LAUNCHES "YONA PRO"

Philportal recently launched "Yona Pro," last July 30, 2011, Saturday. Pigeon Racing club presidents and club members alike "flocked" to the New Horizon Hotel, Mandaluyong to attend the event.

"Yona Pro," a pigeon racing brand, was conceptualized and developed by Mr. Gilbert Laurel, who heads Philportal Tech Labs (PTO), the company's technical arm. Laurel, an avid pigeon racing sportsman and hobbyist, said he was inspired to develop the brand because he of certain time-keeping-related problems and other Club organizational needs that kept him from fully enjoying his sport.

"The Philippines needs a clocking system that is secure and convenient and, more than anything else, affordable," Laurel said. An active pigeon club member and former Club President himself, Laurel added, "Pigeon Racing Clubs in the Philippines also need an easy-to-use, systematic way of tracking members, organizing races and disseminating information. And clubs also need business opportunities to help raise money to help fund more races and member activities."

"Yona Pro" is the company's answer to these problems and needs," Laurel added. "The brand stands for speed and reliability, security and 3rd party objectivity, integrity and peace of mind. The brand has four (4) products:
1) tamper-proof scratch stickers with computer-generated barcodes,
2) Pigeon Clocking System Via SMS,
3) Yona Pro Race Manager, a computer system that allows Clubs to electronically and professionally manage their members, and share club-related news and information; and
4) BizCenter, an integrated e-commerce system found within the Yona Race Manager, which allows retailers to sell electronic pre-paid load for Smart, Globe and Sun; and a specially developed "Yona Pro" cellphone load, for pigeon racers only

Mr. Marlon Alberto of Sun Cellular's Corporate Solutions Division and Mr. Leo Lirio, Country Manager of Macrokiosk joined Laurel during the panel question and answer portion of the launch. Macrokiosk, with head office in Malaysia, is a mobile messaging gateway company. Both Sun and Macrokiosk provide the technical backing for Yona Pro's pigeon clocking system via sms. The event ended with raffle prizes being given away by Mr. Noel Gertes, Sales Supervisor of Vetmate Pharma.

"Yona means 'pigeon' in Hebrew," Laurel said. In past times, pigeons helped win wars, carry messages, and were even used to quickly share the news on the stock market. They played very important roles in the success or demise of a particular group or relationship. In keeping with the pigeon's crucial role in a group's success, Yona Pro strives to drive performance excellence, protects the integrity of the racing club, its members and the race results; and aims to elevate the level of sportsmanship in Philippine Pigeon Racing."
